English to Portuguese Online Translators
From LoveToKnow Online
Looking for English to Portuguese online translators to switch between the two languages? Maybe you have an entire web page you'd like to read in Portuguese or just need to translate a few words or a sentence. If you are just learning the Portuguese language, an online translator could be an invaluable tool to help your comprehension. Whatever your reason for translation, the Internet is a great resource for English to Portuguese online translators. So which ones are the best ones? Check out some of the options below.
Google Translate
Google has no shortage of tools for just about anything you can imagine. Google Translate has been around for some time and can assist you in translating many languages, including Portuguese. After copying and pasting your text into the "original text" box, you select the languages you want to translate from and to, then click translate. The new text appears on the right.
Google Translate also offers additional tools so that you can translate just about anything on the Internet into Portuguese:
- Translated Search: Search with Google and have the results shown in Portuguese.
- Translate Web Page: Do you want to practice your Portuguese? Then translate your favorite web page into the language.
- Translate Your Web Page: By including a script in the programming of your web page, it can appear in Portuguese with one click.
- 1-Click Translation: If you will be using Google Translate regularly, add the 1-Click Translation toolbar to your browser and you won't have to continuously visit the site.
- Instant Translate: With the toolbar, you can also translate into Portuguese on the fly. As you hover the mouse over a word, a small pop-up will tell you its equivalent in the selected language.
English to Portuguese Online Translators at Yahoo
Yahoo! Babel Fish has been around longer than Google Translate. When it first started, users could only translate text into a few languages. Now, Babel Fish provides good translation service for many languages from English to Spanish to Korean to Portuguese. Yahoo has some of the same features as Google Translate, but if you are a big Yahooligan, then you’ll find the interface the same as most of Yahoo’s services. One unique feature is that Babel Fish allows you to compare a translated web page back-to-back with the original.
Dictionary.com Translation
Dictionary.com’s ‘’Translator’’ is somewhat basic, but it gets the job done. You simply type or paste your text into the box and click translate. Depending on the language you select, you may have additional options. For example, when you want to translate from English to Portuguese, you can select from ‘’European Portuguese’’ or ‘’Brazilian Portuguese’’. This is a helpful feature, as subtle regional differences in the language could change the entire meaning of a sentence. One thing you may notice is that Dictionary.com may be able to translate words or phrase other online Portuguese translators cannot.
Other Portuguese Translators
- Reverso — An easy-to-use translator with an online dictionary.
- Online Translator — This is also a basic translator with a few more languages to choose from.
- World Lingo — This site is helpful for translating slang.
Dialect and Slang
Almost all of the English to Portuguese online translators are machine-oriented, which means that a program is interpreting your words into Portuguese. Online translators don’t take into account dialect or slang, although language dictionaries can give you single-word translations. As generations grow and prosper and different classes of people speak differently, you may find that the meaning of words constantly shifts. Nothing beats an actual human translator, especially one that understands regional dialects and slang words from all Portuguese-speaking areas. Sometimes, though, it’s hard to find a Portuguese translator, so the Internet is a reasonable substitute.
