Day Trading Online
From LoveToKnow Online
Day Trading Online Is Not For The Long-Term Investor
Day Trading online is the technique of buying and selling stocks via the internet in which any particular stock is not held for more than a full day - and many times held for just a few minutes or hours.
Day traders are not the same as "investors" because their primary goal is not to buy a stock that will potentially gain a significant value over the course of several months or several years. Instead, day traders are more interested in small gains in price, possibly even a few cents, over the course of a minute, an hour, or a day. It is rare for a true day trader to hold on to any stock overnight for fear breaking news and market fluctuations will negatively affect the price of the stock from one day to the next.
Day Traders Can Work Anywhere
For a professional day trader, day trading online can take place just about anywhere. In fact, numerous cities around the world offer "trading rooms." In a trading room, a group of day traders may sit in very close proximity to each other with their eyes glued to their computer screens at all times. They monitor the stock market very closely and continuously buy and sell stocks throughout the course of the day.
Others prefer to be professional day traders from the comfort of their home office. Since anyone with a high-speed Internet connection has the ability to do this, it is not uncommon for day traders to complete their work from home. Since day traders typically keep their eyes on the fluctuations in the stock market on a minute-by-minute basis, most day traders prefer their office to be void of distractions which sometimes makes having an office within a home very difficult.
Day Trading Online Styles
Day traders typically have one of two trading styles, although they may alternate between the two depending on the particular stock.
Scalper
Day traders who are considered scalpers tend to buy a huge number of shares of a stock and then sell those shares as soon as the value goes up a few cents. While a traditional investor would usually hold on to the shares for an extended period of time until the value of the shares rose significantly, a day trader is happy with a profit of a few cents per share. With a large volume of shares, the profit can be significant for a day's work.
Momentum Trader
Momentum traders purchase a large volume of shares of a particular stock with the intention of selling all shares before the market closes. They do this hoping the stock will rise in price over the course of the day. This day trading style is different from the scalping style in that it is not as fast, even though the entire process is started and completed within a single day.
Day Trading Can Be Profitable
It takes intuition, skill, knowledge, and dedication to become a successful day trader. While there are heavy risks associated with day trading online, there are also definite advantages.
First, all stocks are bought and sold before the stock market closes each day. This means after-hours trading, world news, and other events do not make a difference to the day trader. Second, a day trader is in charge of his or her own stock trading decisions, and is therefore motivated to remain knowledgeable about current trends in a particular market sector. And finally, with their constant tracking of stocks, day traders can find ways to make money even when the stock market seems to be steadily going south.
