Online fantasy football is simple to play and makes getting involved in a league for the first time a bit easier. If you’ve never participated in a fantasy football league, and you don’t know 12 to 14 people who want to play, you can learn how to play at virtually any of the sites you visit. Or, you can read a bit about the game and related fantasy football news first, right here at LovetoKnow. When playing for the first time, it’s probably best to find a free league. Check out one of the most popular free league sites below, follow the site’s direction and your fantasy football career will be underway in no time. Then, you can play with friends or with people you meet in cyberspace. You draft your team and compete from the comforts of home, on your computer.
Online Fantasy Football Web Sites
The most popular places to participate in fantasy football on the Internet are ESPN, CBS Sportsline and Yahoo. These web sites will walk you through the free registration process, as well as the steps to getting started. Once you have registered, you can begin inviting friends, colleagues and family members to join your league. Others from across the nation may join, as well, until your league fills up. Most of these sites make it easy for you to e-mail links to people, so they can, in turn, get to your league and register easily.
Playing Online For Money
Once you’re comfortable with the whole idea of playing online fantasy football, you can play for money, if you wish. Most of these sites have leagues set up that require entry fees, and much of the entry fee goes to prize money or other prizes, like TVs and trips. One league, FFTOC, gives participants a chance to play for as much as $15,000.
Online Draft
There is nothing more thrilling than a Fantasy Football Draft. When playing online, your draft is a bit different from live, in-person drafts. When you draft on the Internet at a place like ESPN or Yahoo, you will literally select your team in cyberspace. Prior to the draft, you go to your league page and rank players from the National Football League in the order you would like to draft them, if they are available when it's your turn in each round. This takes some real strategy on your part, and you may wish to use an fantasy football service which provides draft-day cheat sheets, to help, especially if you're new. Now, when your online draft begins, each team will have a pre-set time limit to make its choice. When your turn comes, you simply find the player on your list that is still unselected, click on that player, and he is yours. This continues for 12 or 14 rounds, until your roster is complete. Note, most fantasy football sites offer an automated draft, in which you can rank players from top to bottom, regardless of position, and the system will select your players for you. So, you don't even need to be at your computer for the draft. Each time your turn comes up in all of the rounds, the computer reads your ranking list and automatically adds the next available player to your roster. Unless you are extremely skilled at ranking players, though, this is not the best way to draft a winning online fantasy football team.
